your communication, relationship and kinship with your dog."
Janet's specialty is working with
pet dogs and their families - she is especially skilled at understanding
the individual temperament of each dog. She has worked full time
to improve the human/animal bond since 1998. When you chose Good
Dog! Training, you and your pet have a consultant for life.
Her career has included serving as
Director of Behavior Programs and then Marketing and Communications
Manager for the Capital Area Humane Society. The programs she created
for CAHS, as well as other animal welfare agencies include - behavior
assessment, group class curriculums, behavior help lines, shelter
enrichment, volunteer dog training programs and rehabilitative services.
Janet has lectured nationally including
at the Humane Society of the United States Animal Care Expo. She
was a regional instructor for "HSUS Pets for Life" program
where she conducted training sessions on how to set up behavior
programs/services in shelters. She is a published author on canine
behavior and training.
A member of the Association of Pet
Dog Trainers, as well as a member of Michigan State University's
HABI (Human Animal Bond Alliance).
She understands the kinship one feels
with their pet is important - it's all about one's relationship
to the animals that share their lives. She has worked with thousands
of pet owners/families in learning to gently manage, train and relate
to their pets.
"As a veterinarian, I see the
consequences of inappropriate behaviors on a daily basis. Janet
not only helps to train the pet, but more importantly works to educate
the owner to recognize how their actions are interpreted by their
pet. My personal experiences in Janet's courses have motivated me
to wholeheartedly recommend her to my colleagues, friends and clients"

"Janet Smith is well-qualified
to handle companion animal behavior issues of all varieties, from
the dog who needs to learn manners to the dog who needs to learn
appropriate uses for his teeth. She has an instant rapport with
animals and uses sound behavioral and training methodologies to
solve the problems of her client's pets".
